After graduating from Sir Francis Drake High School in 2015, Brody Barkan ran cross country and track at Occidental College. During his time in Southern California, Barkan built relationships with many coaches and athletes across the region and country while establishing himself as a competitive middle distance runner. He helped lead the Occidental Cross Country teams to two straight NCAA berths, and was a multi All-Conference and All-Region athlete. Barkan was a conference champion in the 1500 meters and finished 11th in the country at the NCAA DIII Championship meet in that event. He was also a three-time Academic All-American.

At Occidental, Barkan served as a sportswriter and web editor for The Occidental Weekly, was a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and also worked directly with professional athletes at a sports marketing firm.

Barkan founded InStride in 2019 and and has worked with high school athletes from all over the United States.

Barkan also co-founded and serves as a Race Director of The Marin Mile. Additionally, he serves as an assistant coach for Cross Country and Track at International High School in San Francisco. He continues to run competitively with the West Valley Track Club in SF and competes all over the country in road and trail races alike
